Carbon steel pipes are widely used in oil, natural gas, chemical and other industries. These carbon steel pipes can be divided into two categories according to the manufacturing process: seamless carbon steel pipes and welded carbon steel pipes. Although they are both important pipes for transporting fluids, there are significant differences between the two in terms of manufacturing processes, physical properties, application areas, and so on.
1) Manufacturing process
The seamless steel pipe is made by heating the billet to high temperature, then perforating through the perforator, and then rolling through the pipe rolling machine. Because there is no weld in the whole process, it is called seamless steel pipe. The welded steel pipe is made by curling the steel plate into a round shape and then welding. Therefore, welded steel pipes will have welds during the manufacturing process.
2) Mechanical properties
Because seamless steel pipes are made by rolling, their mechanical properties are usually more uniform than welded steel pipes. The strength and toughness of seamless steel pipes are usually higher, so they are more suitable for applications that need to withstand high pressure and temperature. The mechanical properties of welded steel pipes may be affected by the weld, so they may not be as good as seamless steel pipes in some applications.
3) Application
Seamless steel pipe because of its excellent mechanical properties and seamless structure, widely used in petroleum, chemical, electric power, heat and other industrial fields, especially in the need to withstand high pressure and high temperature occasions. The welded steel pipe is more used in low pressure fluid transportation, building structure and other fields.
4) Price
Because the manufacturing process of seamless steel pipe is more complex and the production cost is higher, its price is usually higher than that of welded steel pipe. However, in some applications, the superior properties of seamless steel pipes may make them a more economical option.
In short, there are obvious differences between seamless carbon steel pipes and welded carbon steel pipes in terms of structure, production process and performance. Which type of carbon steel pipe to choose depends on the specific application scenario and requirements. In some occasions with high requirements for fluid transportation, such as petrochemical, natural gas transportation and other fields, seamless carbon steel pipes are a better choice. In some occasions with low requirements for fluid transport, such as construction, water conservancy and other fields, welding carbon steel pipes is more common. No matter what type of carbon steel pipe is selected, it needs to be selected and used according to specific engineering requirements and specifications.
